I gulped. Today was the first day of our committee meeting. I had no idea who I was working with. No idea who the chairperson was. And I was supposed to be okay with that!? I took a couple deep breaths.
In…
And…
Out…
I instantly felt better! But now, it was time to meet who I was working with. I walked through the door and into the large meeting room. One look at who I was working with, and I already knew it would be chaos just agreeing on one tiny thing.
“Hey! Leichu! Good to see you!” Ling cried happily.
“Hey, good to see you too.” I whispered back.
Ling is really good at talking to people. Plus she’s the most sensible person in the entire grade. Ling is my bestie! My birthday was yesterday and she gave me a cute doll that she made. She’s amazing!
That’s when I heard snoring. No surprise here! It was Po. Po is really lazy. He sleeps for like two thirds of the day and I heard that once he gets home he just lies on his bed watching TV and eating Krispy Kreme donuts! But get this! He’s had As for every single assignment. Some say he’s a wizard. Some say that he’s just born super smart so he doesn’t need to pay attention during lessons. But if you ask me (not that you would and please don’t), I would say that his mum does it for him.
I looked around for some snacks. I was starving since I had skipped lunch to stay back and clean the classroom. Justice! I walked over to a bowl of cookies, but just for the last one to be taken! Of course. It was Jin. Jin is super greedy. She isn’t mean, she just loves attention and food. But mainly food. I clearly remembered that during our fundraiser last year she had baked batches of cookies and cakes. Then when the gates were opened for the kids to come in, Jin had already eaten ALL the cakes and cookies.
Then we all sat down at the meeting table. Uh oh! Min was our chairperson.
“Hello and welcome to our first meeting, kay? Now, if you’re not having fun, you’re going to get tickles!” Min announced.
“Are you serious? That is so cringe…” Jin commented.
“Well, I’ve already organised where we’re doing the event, our budget and-” Ling started.
“And no one CARES!” Po finished.
“Well for one I-” I whispered.
“Well, why don’t we listen to what I have to say and not MR BOSSY-BOOTS?!” Fenhua shouted.
Boom. Fenhua had broken the tension. Which was no surprise as Fenhua and Min DO NOT get along. This will be a fun meeting. Hooray.
