Valentina found a button on the side of the device’s gears and considered whether to push it or not. Curiosity got the better of her. The button clicked as she pushed it and the world turned into a flurry of wind, blurring everything around her and making her hair stick up like it was rubbed against a balloon. The tornado of wind made it hard to breathe.

It slowly died down, leaving Valentina on her knees, surrounded in dust and trying to get her breath back. After taking lungfuls of air, she looked around and frowned at the new location. It looked like the library she had discovered earlier, except it was operating. She could see the librarian’s desk just to the right of the sandstone door, except this time it wasn’t messy. Valentina walked towards it and saw the date. It was the fifteenth of September, 1930, she was a hundred years back in time.

A short, old man hobbled over to Valentina. “You seemed to have appeared out of nowhere young lady,” he said.

“Ahh, I’m not really sure what happened,” replied Valentina. The old man sat down and told Valentina to take a seat and explain everything, so she did. The old man listened attentively, taking everything in and not interrupting. After Valentina finished the old man sighed.

‘My name is Patrick Jenkinson and I work in the library as a librarian,” explained Patrick. “I was dusting the shelves when you appeared in a hurricane of wind and blew the dust everywhere. That machine that you’re holding is something that we’re currently trying to make, a time machine. Now we know that it works, but it is very sad that the library gets destroyed. The time machine is supposed to take you back to your time in around half an hour, so roam around and explore the library as you wish.”

“Thank you so much MR. Patrick,” Valentina cried as she ran off along the fancy corridors of the grand library.

She loved everything about the library. The chandeliers, the way the books were arranged, the walls, the velvet curtains and even the red and gold carpet, it was wonderful. As she was enjoying herself, the thirty minutes passed quickly, and before she knew it, Valentina was whirling around in the hurricane of wind once again.

Once she reached her hotel, she said “time really does fly when you’re having fun,” before dozing off as soon her head hit the pillow on her fluffy, white bed.
