A group of birds sang and hummed as they flew through the branches of the willow trees. A small lake was nestled in the middle of the circle of willow trees. A mountain loomed over it all, yet it wasn’t a scary mountain that would frighten you as you looked up to its summit. In fact, it was a mountain with beautiful oak trees and flowers blossoming amongst mossy rocks. There were animals everywhere, peacefully living with each other. No hunting either, just the blissful quiet background noise of animal sounds, the babbling river leading into the lake, and the wind. That was all that happened in Animalia, the supercontinent where all the animals lived. Places like the North and South Poles were 5 mountains maximum away, and all the animals lived in peace.

Kiki wandered out of the nest in the willow tree’s roots, in a little cave-like shelter.
“Be careful today Kiki!” Her mum shouted from the nest, where she was resting. Kiki rolled her eyes inwardly and scoffed.
“I’ll be fine, don’t you know anything mum?” The feisty 5 year-old chick replied, but she still ran back to give her mum a hug. She hopped along her usual route, past the willow trees down to the lake, stopping to drink a sip of water. Then she went along the river until she had walked all the way to the end of the mountain. She hopped to the middle of the mountain and entered the cave in it. She walked past the bats’ cavern, and reached the bears’ cavern. She ambled in, waving at Mother Bear, or ‘Petal’, as she liked to ask everyone to call her because ‘Mother Bear’ made her sound old. She went past the twin brother bears, Seth and Liam, ignoring their heated argument. She reached the sleeping corner of Lily Bear, who was snoring away. Kiki chirped loudly, and rubbed Lily’s head with her wing.
“Lily! Time to wake up! We have some exploring to do today!” LIly grumbled and sat up, rubbing her eyes blearily, but she soon forgot her tiredness, her eyes sparkling with excitement at the mention of exploring. Kiki laughed and they went out of the cave, Petal shouting as they left,
“Be careful and mind you don’t get in trouble, girls!”
“We won’t, mummy!” Lily shouted back, smiling at Kiki as they left.
“Can we go visit my cousins Frost and Icicle and Iceberg and Snow today?” Lily said, her eyes twinkling. Kiki frowned.
“You have a lot of cousins.” she remarked. Lily looked nervous.
“So will we go?” she asked nervously. Kiki broke out in a wide smile.
“Of course! They're polar bears, right?” Lily breathed an inaudible sigh of relief. “Yeah! Let’s go!” With that, the two best friends set off to walk past the 3 mountains to get to the cave in the Snowy Fjord where the polar bears lived.
