The Committee
At the animal shelter, people are planning a fundraiser to help the animals. The committee gathers in a colourful room filled with the sounds of barking dogs and posters of cats and dogs on the walls. Mike is already there, secretly playing video games on the computer. He's kind but lazy and somehow became the chairperson.
Ava, who loves running and speaking, rushes into the office wearing her Crocs. Polly sneaks in too; she loves art and wants to share an idea about animals. Mike notices her walk in and nods at her. Lily enters after her friend Polly; she's creative and loves art. Dan walks in grumpily, carrying cakes he baked and places them down on the desk for everyone to share. Mark follows him in, looking anxious and holding a bird-watching book.
Everyone sits down, and Mike stands up to speak. "Hello everyone, welcome to the first meeting of the Animal Shelter Fundraising Committee. Does anyone have ideas?"
Ava suggests sponsoring a fun run with their pets. Polly quietly says, "No. I don't think that is a good idea. I think we should sell artworks of animals." Lily agrees loudly, adding that they should have a market with food trucks and asks to be in charge of them. Dan loudly suggests a baking contest.
Mark nervously adds more ideas: including pet supply stalls, someone teaching pet tricks, and setting up bird-watching decks.
The Mole
Ava is upset because no one liked her idea, and in her diary, she writes about it. "At the meeting today, everyone's ideas were accepted, except mine. Everyone dismissed my great idea of a fun run. Mine was the best idea, and everyone else is mean and stupid. I am so angry that I'm going to let out all the shelter animals and have them run through the event and mess up the artwork and market stalls.” Note to self: I hope no one reads this.
"My first act of sabotage will be to ruin the baking contest. I'm going to sneak into the kitchen and sprinkle salt all over the cakes." Note to reader: Ava doesn't realise there are cameras in the kitchen.
Salty Cake Surprise
On the big day, people eagerly buy cakes hoping to enjoy their delicious taste. Suddenly confusion turns into disgust—everyone starts spitting them out - each cake is covered in salt!. No one brought any more cakes after that…
Dan then becomes really suspicious. Someone had to be sabotaging the event, and he was determined to find out who.
Meanwhile, Ava enters the art room, frustration bubbling inside her. In a moment of rage, she smashed one of the paintings. But then, suddenly, she felt a wave of nausea. She doubled over and threw up, realising she had eaten one of the salted cakes. Note to self: Don’t eat cakes you’ve sabotaged.
Suddenly, an alarm goes off, and she runs away quickly, leaving one of her Crocs behind.
Dan arrives to check out the alarm and finds a running shoe near the artwork. He picks it up and wonders who it belongs to.
Dan calls all the committee members together to talk about what has been happening at the event.
Could be Mike? He’d been overwhelmed and overworked, and perhaps he had snapped.
Maybe Ava? She was mad no one agreed with her ideas.
What about Polly? She was upset that her animal-themed artwork didn’t get much attention. Could she have done it out of spite?
Or Lily? Perhaps she didn’t like the art other people had contributed and wanted to eliminate the competition.
And then there was Mark. He had seemed unusually anxious all week.
While this was happening, the committee were wondering why none of the food trucks had arrived, leaving people hungry. No one realised, the night before, Ava had sent a bunch of emails to the food trucks with the wrong details of the event, directing them to a local daycare instead. While she was doing this from the animal shelter computer, Mark had walked in. She quickly shut down the computer and threatened him to keep quiet…
The ending
Dan told Mike about the shoe and the alarm that went off. Mike checked the cameras and saw Ava doing everything: salting cakes, smashing paintings and using the computer late at night. He called Ava and the other committee members together.
“Okay everyone, something has been happening at the event,” Mike said. “Ava, you need to explain what you did.”
Just then, Mark stood up and yelled, “Yeah, what about the emails you sent to the food truck operators with the wrong address for the event? That's why the food trucks aren't here!”
Some committee members were shocked. Ava admitted, “Fine, I did it because none of you agreed with my idea.” She then ran off.
Mike quickly contacted all the food trucks and got them to come to the event. Soon, everyone was able to eat and enjoy the remaining artwork.
In the meantime Ava realised her mistake and came back. When she saw everything cleaned up and all the food trucks there, she was confused. She then apologised and offered to pay for everything. Everyone forgave her and they all watched the animal race together, making Ava very happy and grateful for a second chance. She hugged them all tightly and thanked them for their forgiveness.
The event was a great success, with the food trucks bringing delicious smells and smiles to the event. People enjoyed the tasty food, laughing together and having fun feeding and petting the animals, unaware of the chaos earlier in the day.
A week later, after counting all the money, the committee found they had enough funds to plan an even bigger fundraiser, helping more animals in need.
