Pressed flowers

Take a look at these beautiful pressed flowers — they were found in a soldier's diary from the First World War! The flowers were kept safely in his notebook so they still look like this 100 years later.

Start your own collection of pressed flowers.

  1. Choose a spot where you have permission to pick flowers, and use scissors to cut off a small section of the plant.
  2. At home, open a heavy book and line the pages with recycled paper.
  3. Carefully place your flower cutting onto the pages.
  4. Write down your name and the date on the recycled paper, and carefully close the book onto the flower.
  5. Put some other books on top and leave for a few weeks before checking your pressed flower.

Try experimenting with different plants to see if they look different when they’re pressed!

You can use your pressed flowers to make crafts, like cards or bookmarks!
